He Shot His Co-Worker During An Argument. Now He’s Been Sentenced.
Shortly after 4:00 a.m., Lakeville police responded to a parking lot at an Amazon warehouse in Lakeville, Minnesota after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim Cariif.
According to prosecutors, Cariif worked with Mohamed Aden Hared and another man at an Amazon warehouse in Lakeville. After work, the three men carpooled together, and Hared brought a gun that was equipped with a flashlight attachment.
The gun was left in the vehicle while the men went to work.
During a break around 1:00 a.m., Hared went to the vehicle and noticed the flashlight attachment was missing from the gun. Prosecutors said Hared accused the two other men of stealing it.
Around 4:00 a.m., the three men took another break and went to the vehicle to look for the missing attachment. Hared again accused the two men, which they denied.
According to the criminal complaint, Hared and Cariif got into two separate physical altercations.
During the second altercation, prosecutors said Hared pulled out his gun while Cariif tried to force it out of his hand.
Hared fired the gun, and the bullet struck a nearby unoccupied vehicle.
The two men yelled at Hared not to shoot.
Hared then fired again, striking Cariif.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office listed Cariif’s manner of death as a homicide.
Hared was originally charged with second-degree intentional murder in connection with Cariif’s death.
In January 2026, Hared pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree unintentional murder while committing a felony.
On May 29, 2026, 26-year-old Mohamed A. Hared was sentenced in Dakota County District Court to 128 months in prison.
Hared will receive credit for 700 days already served.
He remains in custody at the Dakota County Jail while awaiting transfer to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
