Jay-Z Suffers Court Setback as Legal Battle With Attorney Continues
Jay-Z has suffered another legal setback following a California appeals court ruling involving attorney Tony Buzbee, who previously represented a woman who accused the rapper of sexual assault.
The latest case was not a ruling that Jay-Z committed sexual assault. Instead, the dispute centered on Jay-Z’s lawsuit against Buzbee and allegations surrounding the attorney’s handling of the sexual-assault accusation.
The woman’s original lawsuit against Jay-Z was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in February 2025, meaning the same claim cannot simply be brought again.

Those claims should be treated cautiously, as they do not accurately describe what the latest court ruling decided.
The case has nevertheless reignited debate surrounding Jay-Z’s legal battles and the controversy that began with the original allegations.
