At approximately 11:28 a.m., officers and fire crews responded to a crash near the 1900 block of Delga Street in Fort Worth, Texas. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle that had struck an unoccupied parked car before continuing a short distance and coming to a stop. A man was pronounced deceased in the passenger area of the vehicle. A second man, identified as the driver, was provided medical care at the scene but was also pronounced deceased.
The identities of the two men have not been released.
During the investigation, firefighters discovered a large amount of an unknown chemical inside the vehicle. The area was secured as traffic investigators and narcotics officers responded to the scene.
Further examination revealed 10 white plastic buckets filled with a liquid substance inside the vehicle. The contents tested presumptive positive for liquid methamphetamine, with an estimated total weight of 480 pounds and a potential street value between $1 million and $3 million.
Officials noted the fumes from the substance were strong but remained contained within the vehicle.
During the response, one firefighter was exposed to the fumes and was transported to a local hospital. Officials said the firefighter is expected to be released and is in good condition.
The DEA Clandestine Lab responded to the scene to collect, analyze, and dispose of the hazardous materials.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
