Houston police have arrested 18-year-old Diego Gene Torres and charged him with capital murder in connection with a deadly shooting early Sunday morning.
Police say officers found a man unconscious in the driver’s seat of a vehicle near 10100 Mesa Drive around 1:20 a.m. The victim had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the shooting actually started in the parking lot at 9905 Mesa Drive.
Court documents state Torres attempted to rob the victim before a struggle broke out. The victim was shot during the struggle and tried to drive away, but crashed into a pole near 10100 Mesa Drive.
Detectives later located the suspect vehicle and arrested Torres. According to HPD, Torres admitted his role in the shooting.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of his family.
Torres is charged with capital murder in the 248th Criminal District Court and is being held in the Harris County Jail.
He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
