Emonnie Branch Taken Into Custody After KSP Trooper Hayden Phillips Killed on I-65
Emonnie Branch has been taken into custody in Louisville following the fatal shooting of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips on Interstate 65 in Warren County, Kentucky.
Kentucky State Police confirmed that Branch was arrested Monday, September 28, after authorities identified him as the suspect in the incident near Smiths Grove. Reports indicate the arrest took place in Louisville, with Louisville Metro Police involved in the apprehension.
Trooper Hayden Phillips, Unit 369, was killed while patrolling I-65 in Warren County. Phillips was assigned to KSP Post 3 in Bowling Green and was a graduate of Cadet Class 103. KSP confirmed his death Monday afternoon.
Authorities previously issued a Blue Alert while searching for Branch and a bluish-gray Honda Civic believed to have been connected to the incident. The vehicle was reported to have an Alabama temporary registration.
The Blue Alert was later canceled after Branch was taken into custody.
The incident caused significant law enforcementactivity and closures along I-65 as officers searched for the suspect.
Authorities urged the public not to approach Branch and to contact law enforcement.
