Afghanistan’s Washington embassy to close in a week
With no recognized government to back it and bank accounts frozen to avoid violating US sanctions against the Taliban, Afghanistan’s Washington embassy will be forced to close this week.
About a quarter of the roughly 100 staff who work at the embassy have still not applied for residency or humanitarian parole needed to remain in the US, with one month left to do so before facing deportation, according to the NY Times
