Qatar’s envoy to Gaza has announced the kingdom will plough $60 million into a pipeline to provide Gaza with Israeli gas.
Doha has poured around $1BN into Gaza since 2012, including $7MN/month in fuel aid already, as well as averaging $20MN per month directly to Hamas.
The deal would still require the approval of Israel, Egypt and the EU (which would partly fund the pipeline extension) and could take years to finalize, but would save Palestinians $10MN every month, according to the envoy.
