Alamo Man Gets Life For McAllen Masonic Lodge Killing
Julio Diaz, 38, of Alamo was sentenced Monday in the 139th District Court to life in prison for the July 2023 murder of Robert Wise, a member of the McAllen Masonic Lodge. Investigators say Diaz arrived at the lodge on North 11th Street in a black Chevrolet and opened fire, and McAllen police found Wise with multiple gunshot wounds next to his pickup truck. A jury convicted Diaz in August of murder and two counts of arson; he received 50 years on each arson count, running alongside the life sentence. Hidalgo County’s top prosecutor called it a punishment that fits the crime. Wise’s son says the sentencing is a step toward healing for the family, and they plan to be at every hearing if Diaz appeals.
Nearly three years after the shooting, the case that shook the McAllen Masonic Lodge community has reached its final chapter.
