Power plant in Germany hit by homemade rockets packed with explosives: Reports
A substation in Jänschwalde near Brandenburg’s largest power plant was targeted in the attempted attack.
Multiple power lines were also damaged as the improvised missiles rained down.
Chaos broke out near Germany‘s fourth largest power hub in Jänschwalde as several mystery rockets with bombs reportedly fitted to them landed at the facility.
German police are now investigating the ordeal.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Brandenburg to find the “homemade rockets packed with explosives” at the site.
Reports claimed the power depot came under fire several times and took multiple hits.
Bomb disposal teams raced to the facility before defusing several missiles, local reports say.
Authorities confirmed there had been an attempted attack at the substation near the Jänschwalde power plant.
The suspected aim of the plot was to cause a blackout at the nearby Jänschwalde coal plant.
“50Hertz is working closely with the relevant security authorities to clarify the situation.”
It comes after two drones were spotted at Leipzig airport in August – with a third being found a week later.
Vladimir Putin has been accused of plotting the scheme – as fears mount the tyrant is prepared to step up his shadow warfare campaign against the West with similar plans.
The bomb-carrying UAV was discovered near a fleet of Ukrainian cargo planes, while the second is believed to have struck an incoming jet mid-air.
No casualties were reported.
