Woman Killed by Omaha Police After Child Injured in Reported Kidnapping Attempt

Omaha police fatally shot a woman after she allegedly slashed a child during an attempted kidnapping, authorities said.
Officials said Guzman approached the caretaker with a knife and ordered them to move in front of the shopping cart.
Police said Guzman followed the caretaker out of the store and into the parking lot.
The caretaker was able to get away and ask a woman in the parking lot to call 911.
Police were called to the Walmart for a “nature unknown” emergency. The caller requested police assistance, but didn’t give any additional information.
Another person called 911, saying there was a woman who was armed with “a large kitchen knife” with a child.
Two officers arrived at the store and approached the woman, who was making threats with the knife.
Video showed the suspect swiping the knife at the child, cutting him across the face.
Two Omaha police officers shot and killed the woman after she didn’t respond to verbal commands.
After officers discharged their weapons, the caretaker and a bystander immediately removed the boy from the cart, rendering aid to him.
Officers performed lifesaving measures on Guzman.
Omaha police said it is unknown what provoked the suspect to approach the caretaker.
