The crocodile that attacked and killed a young boy by dragging him into a river in Bahraich has been caught by the Forest Department. Officials confirmed that the reptile will be safely relocated to a different river to prevent further human-wildlife conflict.
The reptile grabbed the boy and took him into the river. Sunil’s uncle and villagers present at the scene rushed to rescue him and attempted to pull the child to safety, but the animal dragged him into deeper waters.
Police have confirmed the authenticity of a clip, which captures parts of the incident that claimed the child’s life.
Vijay Raj Singh, the boy’s uncle, said the crocodile tossed his nephew, Sunil Singh, in the air and swallowed him, despite his attempts to rescue him. Locals joined in and threw stones at the reptile. The mutilated remains of the boy were later found in the river.
SDM of Mahsi circle, Prakash Singh, told TOI: “Sunil Singh was studying in Class VI at a govt upper primary school in the village. His parents had passed away about six years ago. He is survived by two sisters and a younger brother.”
