Towson University issues shelter-in-place alert after shooting reported near campus
A developing situation is unfolding near Towson University in Maryland after campus officials issued an emergency shelter-in-place alert Sunday evening.
According to reports from WBAL and university public safety officials, everyone on the Towson University campus was instructed to immediately shelter in place, close and lock windows and doors, and await further instructions from authorities.
Towson University Public Safety sent an alert around 7:20 p.m. reporting a shooting at 8013 York Road, located near the university campus. Authorities also reported an emergency response in the 8000 block of York Road.
At this time, officials have not released confirmed information regarding the number of people injured, the condition of any possible victims, or whether a suspect has been taken into custody. The investigation remains active as law enforcement responds to the situation.
University safety guidelines advise people sheltering inside to remain away from windows and doors, stay quiet, silence cellphones and remain indoors until law enforcement provides an all-clear.
Students, faculty, staff and visitors on or near campus are being urged to follow official instructions and avoid the affected area.
