A Mother And Her Son Were Stabbed To Death. Her Boyfriend Got Natural Life.
Officers responded to a domestic violence 911 call in the 2700 block of Emma’s Way in Geneva, Illinois. Upon arrival, officers forced entry into the home after no one answered the front door and found a woman and a teenage boy unresponsive with multiple stab wounds.
The victims were identified as 47-year-old Christina L. Chavira and 13-year-old Damian Chavira.
Authorities said Christina was treated by medics at the scene and transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her son was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Officers also found Christina’s boyfriend, 52-year-old Alejandro Cota, inside the home.
Authorities said Cota surrendered to police and was transported to the Geneva Police Department.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office later determined Christina and Damian’s cause of death was consistent with multiple stab wounds.
On June 10, 2026, Cota pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
A judge sentenced him to natural life in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Prosecutors said Cota agreed to the sentence in exchange for his guilty plea.
Law enforcement and prosecutors have not released a specific motive regarding why Cota killed his girlfriend, Christina and her 13-year-old son, Damian.
