She Refused To Evict Her Roommate Legally. So She Dismembered Her.
On June 2, 2018, officers responded to a home in the 200 block of 14th Street in San Francisco, California after receiving a report that a woman had been murdered, dismembered and hidden in the basement. Upon searching the home, officers found a woman’s dismembered body inside a blue plastic container.
The victim was identified as 61-year-old Margaret Mamer.
Court records showed that Mamer shared the home with Lisa Gonzales, who was the master tenant.
Gonzales had repeatedly demanded that Mamer move out. Although she was offered several legal ways to evict her, Gonzales reportedly responded, “No thanks, I’ll do it my way.”
Mamer’s friends were aware of ongoing tension between the roommates.
After they had not heard from Mamer for several days, they reported her missing on June 1, 2018.
When a third roommate asked Gonzales what happened to Mamer, Gonzales reportedly replied, “She left, but not the way she wanted to.”
The following day, a concerned citizen contacted police and reported that Gonzales had murdered someone, dismembered the body and placed it inside a container in the basement.
When officers questioned Gonzales, she claimed Mamer had moved to Eureka and that she had helped her leave on May 15.
Police searched the basement and found Mamer’s dismembered remains inside the container.
Crime scene investigators also found Mamer’s blood spattered throughout Gonzales’ bathroom, despite Gonzales having attempted to clean it with bleach.
Charging documents said Mamer was killed sometime between May 13 and June 2, 2018.
An autopsy determined Mamer died from multiple sharp-force injuries to her face, head and chest.
A jury later found Gonzales guilty of second-degree murder involving the use of a deadly weapon.
On August 3, 2026, Judge Teresa Caffesee sentenced 55-year-old Lisa Gonzales to 31 years to life in state prison.
