Cartel Boss Arrested For Valeria Márquez Murder Caught On Livestream
Valeria Márquez was livestreaming from her beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, chatting with followers on TikTok when the unthinkable happened.
Earlier that day, two men had reportedly come to the salon claiming they had an expensive gift for her. One of them was disguised as a delivery driver and asked specifically for Valeria by name. They left when they were told she wasn’t available, but returned later while she was live on social media.
During the livestream, a man entered the salon and asked, “Are you Valeria?” After she answered yes, he opened fire. Valeria was shot multiple times, collapsing in front of the camera as thousands of viewers watched in horror. The livestream continued briefly before another woman rushed over and ended it. The shocking video quickly spread across social media and drew international attention.
Now, investigators say they have made a major breakthrough.
Mexican authorities have arrested Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, better known as “El R-1,” who they identify as a high-ranking leader within the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Officials allege he was the mastermind behind Valeria’s murder and say the killing was carried out by members of his criminal organization.
According to investigators, the murder was allegedly ordered after Valeria ended her relationship with Francisco Álvarez, El R-1’s son. Authorities say Francisco had previously threatened Valeria, and they believe he asked his father to have her killed. Francisco and the suspected gunman have not been arrested and remain wanted.
Officials also say El R-1 is responsible for far more than Valeria’s death. He is accused of leading one of the CJNG’s most violent criminal cells and has been linked to extortion, drug trafficking, and numerous violent crimes. Authorities also allege he orchestrated the November 2025 assassination of former Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo, who was shot during Day of the Dead celebrations.
The arrest comes after months of investigation by Mexican authorities, who say El R-1 coordinated multiple acts of violence throughout the region. While investigators believe they’ve captured the man who ordered the killing, the search continues for those accused of carrying out the attack that ended Valeria’s life on camera.
