She Admits Killing Her Children — But Claims She Wasn’t in Control
At 6:10 p.m., first responders were called to a home on Summer Street in Duxbury, Massachusetts, after a man reported that his wife had jumped from a second-story window and his children were unresponsive inside the residence. Upon arrival, authorities located three children inside the home unconscious with obvious signs of trauma.
Two of the three children were pronounced dead after being transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. The third child, a baby boy, was flown to Boston Children’s Hospital with traumatic injuries. He was pronounced deceased Jan 27, 2023.
The victims were identified as 5-year-old Cora Clancy, 3-year-old Dawson Clancy, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy.
Investigators determined that 32-year-old Lindsay Clancy had sent her husband out of the home shortly before the incident occurred. When he returned approximately 25 minutes later, he found her outside after she had jumped from a window and discovered the children inside the home.
Prosecutors allege the killings were intentional, stating Clancy planned the incident by ensuring she was alone with the children. Authorities said the children had been strangled using exercise bands.
In the months leading up to the incident, Clancy, a labor and delivery nurse, had reportedly been prescribed multiple medications for postpartum depression. Her defense later stated she was experiencing postpartum psychosis at the time.
On April 7, 2026, Clancy’s attorney filed a motion stating she is willing to formally admit to killing her children. The defense argued that her actions are not in dispute and that the only issue for trial should be her mental state at the time of the killings.
Her attorney has requested a bifurcated trial, which would separate the determination of guilt from the question of criminal responsibility. A judge had previously denied a similar request.
Clancy has entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity and is expected to undergo a forensic psychological evaluation. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 23, 2026 with her trial set to begin on July 20, 2026.
