A night out in downtown Tucson shattered into violence early Sunday morning, July 19, 2026, leaving nine people wounded and a suspect in critical condition after a rapid-response confrontation with foot patrol officers.

According to the interim complaint in that case, French is accused of pointing a rifle at a man in October of 2024 and ultimately firing the rifle once in the direction of a male victim. That person was not shot.
He admitted to officers that he was at the location, but did not remember shooting at anyone.
He eventually reached a deal to plead guilty to a count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
