German authorities say the suspect behind the deadly terror attack in Berlin has been shot and killed by police after a nearly 24-hour manhunt.
Officials identified the attacker as Abdul Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese descent. According to investigators, Ballout had previously attempted to join the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization.
The attack left one person dead and at least 29 others injured, sending shockwaves across Germany and prompting a large-scale security response.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the incident as an “Islamic terror attack,” confirming that investigators are treating the case as an act of terrorism.
