Virginia man charged with duct taping his wife to a chair so he could watch football upstairs “in peace”

Terry Ward, a 64-year-old man from Richmond, Virginia, has been charged with felony abduction and misdemeanor assault on a family member after allegedly duct-taping his wife to a chair in their basement so he could watch a football game upstairs.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Sunday night, October 11, 2026, on Maplewood Avenue in Richmond. Ward allegedly restrained his wife with tape in the basement for 30 to 45 minutes to watch a Baltimore Ravens game upstairs, later admitting the act to officers who observed marks and residue on her arms.

Ward faces charges of felony abduction and misdemeanor assault, with a court date set for November 10, 2026, in Richmond.

Ward’s initial arraignment and bond hearing were continued.

He is next scheduled to appear in the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court on November 10, 2026. Under law, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
