A South Carolina man is behind bars after allegedly cutting a person’s toes off with a machete.

Records show Matthew Hellman was booked Tuesday at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on weapons charges as well as a count of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

According to an arrest warrant, Hellman was involved in an altercation on April 3.

A police report states an officer with the Horry County Police Department responded to the scene, where the victim crawled to the door to let the officer inside.

The person explained they and Hellman were in a recent feud, and that they let him in before the assault.

According to the reported victim, the two got into a short tussle before Hellman was able to push them to the ground.

The person told police they got into a “defensive position,” holding their left leg and arms up hoping to block Hellman who was coming at them with a machete.

Hellman then allegedly hit the victim’s left foot with the weapon, striking their middle and index toes.

Hellman is also accused of going into the kitchen and throwing plates and bowls at the unidentified person before leaving.
