According to a translated news release shared by the Hellenic Coast Guard, the woman was found conscious in the Ionian Sea near the island of Zakynthos, Greece. Greek authorities were first notified that the 44-year-old woman, an El Salvadoran national, had fallen into the water on the morning of Friday, Oct. 9, according to the release.

After being notified, a “local emergency plan” was activated, and searches began with the help of rescue vessels from the Hellenic Coast Guard, a helicopter from the Hellenic Air Force and passing ships in the area.

A passing cargo ship first spotted the woman and she was later picked up by the Greek coast guard patrol boat.

The woman allegedly told her rescuers she jumped from the vessel because “she wanted to disembark,” a coast guard spokesperson told AFP.

“We immediately launched a search and rescue effort and are working with authorities,” Royal Caribbean Group, the cruise line’s parent company, told the outlet.

Royal Caribbean did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
