Chicago police are investigating after a late-night shooting on the city’s Southwest Side left three people injured, including two teenagers.
According to authorities, the shooting happened just before midnight near the 5000 block of South Hoyne Avenue in the Back of the Yards/New City area. Police said the victims were standing outside when gunfire suddenly erupted.
A 20-year-old man was reportedly shot in the chest and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. An 18-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, while a 16-year-old was hit in the leg. Both teens are expected to survive, officials said.
Investigators say no suspects are currently in custody, and detectives are still working to determine what led to the shooting. Witnesses reportedly heard multiple shots before the victims realized they had been struck.
The latest violence adds to ongoing concerns over gun crime in several Chicago neighborhoods as police continue searching for those responsible. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
