Chicago police fatally shoot Derek Jordan after he fled traffic stop, struck pedestrian and rammed CTA bus
On March 9, 2026, around 5:30 p.m. in the 800 block of North Homan Avenue in Chicago’s Humboldt Park, officers attempted to stop a white Mercedes driven by 42-year-old Derek Jordan.
The vehicle was wanted in connection with a shooting earlier that day on the Eisenhower Expressway. Jordan fled the stop, striking a female pedestrian in a crosswalk. During the pursuit, his vehicle struck a CTA bus and an unmarked police squad car.
Bodycam footage shows the car moving back and forth, ramming the bus while officers surrounded the vehicle and ordered him to exit.
Officer Max Walzer fired six shots through the passenger side window, fatally striking Jordan.
A weapon was recovered from Jordan’s car at the scene.
