He Was Working Security When He Was Killed. A Woman Is Charged With Murder.

Around 1 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Market Street in San Francisco, California, for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they found a 47-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

The victim was identified as 47-year-old Ulysses Tykee Davis.

Davis worked as a security guard at the Warfield Theatre.

Earlier that night, the venue hosted an 18-and-over event connected to the Zeus Network reality series “Baddies USA.”

Around 12:45 a.m., employees said a chemical irritant described as bear mace was sprayed inside the theater, causing people to rush toward the exits.

Authorities said a disturbance occurred inside the venue and a woman was escorted outside.

Davis’ brother-in-law said Davis was helping remove a disruptive woman from the theater when she shot him in the back. He said Davis’ wife and two of his children were present when the shooting occurred.

Investigators have not publicly confirmed the family’s complete account of what happened immediately before the shooting. Authorities said they are also still determining whether Davis was specifically targeted.

The shooter fled before officers arrived.

Investigators believe video of the shooting exists and are examining how the gun was brought into the venue.

On October 6, homicide investigators developed probable cause to arrest 32-year-old Shakia Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt was taken into custody by members of the San Francisco Police Department’s Crime Gun Information Center.

On October 7, prosecutors charged Vanderbilt with murder, with an allegation that she personally used a firearm during the killing.

She was also charged with discharging a firearm at an occupied building, with an allegation that she intentionally discharged the weapon and caused death, and four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Vanderbilt appeared in court for arraignment on October 8. She remained in custody as of the latest available update, but authorities had not publicly released additional details from the hearing.

The investigation remains ongoing.
