A train derailment has sent coal into the Feather River in Plumas County, California.
Union Pacific said the incident Sunday involved 15 cars carrying coal. The derailment happened as the train was headed westbound around 6:45 a.m. Sunday.
According to a report from the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services the derailment was caused by a track defect. Of the 15 cars that derailed, 13 of them released coal. One of the cars was in the water.
According to the report, all of the cars were fully loaded with 118 tons of coal.
Union Pacific said no one was injured. The company spokesperson said there were no hazmat releases.
