A shelter-in-place order has been issued as crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department
The fire was first reported around 2 p.m., with units arriving in the 18000 block of Industrial Avenue to find a one-story building fully engulfed in flames. Heavy smoke prompted crews to take a defensive approach to the blaze.
A shelter-in-place order has been issued as crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department battle a large two-alarm fire in an industrial building in South Gate Sunday.
“Bring all people and pets indoors. Remain indoors with doors and windows closed,” the alert stated. “Be prepared to follow law and fire instructions. Call 911 for emergency assistance.”
In footage of the blaze obtained by KTLA and posted to Citizen, flames can be seen from the road that appears to be behind the facility where heavy smoke was billowing into the sky while at least some trees near the building had ignited.
Aerial footage showed a massive plume of black smoke rising above the property. Large flames had engulfed what appeared to be salvaged automotive parts. Firefighters were seen using extended ladders to douse the flames from above.
The property, which appeared to be SSSJJ Auto Service, was closely surrounded by other business and dozens of homes. It’s unclear if any other structures had sustained damage in the fire.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation and its unclear if any injuries have been reported.
