Oakbrook Center Mall Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured; 3 Taken Into Custody

Police say the shooting followed an altercation involving two vehicles in the mall parking lot near L.L.Bean. Authorities say there is no current threat to the public, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities said the shooting happened shortly after noon in a parking lot near the L.L.Bean store. Officers responding to the scene found a man suffering from gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead. A woman also suffered gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been released.

Police said five people in two vehicles had met in the parking lot before an altercation broke out and gunfire was exchanged. One vehicle remained at the mall, while the other left the area.

Investigators used license plate reader technology to locate the vehicle that fled. Three people connected to that vehicle were later taken into custody in neighboring Oakbrook Terrace for questioning. Police have not identified those individuals or announced charges.

Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains active.

Oak Brook police described the incident as isolated and said there was no immediate threat to the public. The mall remained open, although a heavy police presence was reported in the area while investigators processed the scene.

Officials are expected to provide additional information as the investigation continues.
