He Claimed It Was Accidental — Now He Sentenced To Life for Baby’s Death
Emergency crews responded to a mobile home in Toledo, Ohio after an 11-month-old girl was reported unresponsive. Authorities said a man was alone with the child inside the home he shared with the girl’s mother when first responders arrived.
The victim was identified as 11-month-old Winsley Raymundo.
Winsley was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where she later died.
A preliminary autopsy determined the infant died from a blunt-force injury to the head.
Investigators said 24-year-old Alexander N. Butler claimed the injury was accidental, but court documents stated the severity of the child’s injuries did not match his explanation or medical findings.
On July 31, 2025, Butler was indicted on charges of felonious assault and endangering children. In December 2025, a Lucas County grand jury returned a new indictment adding two alternative murder charges along with aggravated murder.
In April 2026, Butler entered an Alford plea in connection with Winsley’s death. As part of the plea agreement, charges of aggravated murder, felonious assault, and endangering children were dismissed.
On May 5, 2026, Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Eric Marks sentenced Alexander Butler to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.
The court also credited Butler with 287 days already served in custody.
