The city of Irvington has issued a shelter-in-place order from an ongoing police situation, with the Breckinridge County School District cancelling class for what was supposed to be High Attendance Day.

School leaders made the announcement around 7 a.m. on Wednesday through social media.

“The city of Irvington remains in a shelter in place at this time,” Breckinridge County School District members said.

Just after 9 a.m., Kentucky State Police said troopers were assisting the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office in a search for a person who was potentially armed.

Authorities said more information about Wednesday’s search would be released as it becomes available.

District officials originally planned to open schools after a two-hour delay but later announced that the school was closed.
