Authorities in Indiana say the vice principal of an elementary school has been arrested on charges of child seduction.

According to court paperwork, 42-year-old Scott Liggett is accused of grooming a girl starting in 2015 while he worked as an academic dean at Mary Daly Elementary.

Elkhart Community Schools confirmed Liggett previously worked at Mary Daly and Mary Feeser elementary schools as an academic dean.

Investigators said the girl later became Liggett’s foster child, requiring her to live in his home with him, his wife and their two young children, with family later formally adopting her.

St. Joseph County police said the girl told officers that she was not happy about living with him permanently and that Liggett sexually assaulted her.

Liggett most recently worked at Mars Elementary School in Berrien Springs, where he served as vice principal.

School officials shared that parents in all school districts where Liggett worked have been notified of the investigation and that he was removed and placed on leave following the allegations.

A parent said he is disgusted to hear about these developments and that Liggett was going by a different name at the elementary school.

“If you go onto the Berrien Springs Public Schools website, that individual’s name under the assistant principal for Mars Elementary says Wes. But in fact, that’s actually Scott Liggett,” Derek Davis, who has two daughters who attend the school, said. “I started doing further digging into it, and it was just kind of mind-blowing.”

Officials said the alleged assault did not happen at school, as their investigation remains ongoing.
