2 children in Mendocino County is believed to be a murder-suicide involving their father

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of a 44-year-old man, his 14-year-old daughter and his 7-year-old son as a double murder-suicide.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a residence in the 6800 block of Old River Road near Ukiah on Friday morning after a 911 transfer call from the California Highway Patrol. The caller reported finding two children at the residence who needed medical assistance.

According to the sheriff’s office, people at the residence decided to transport the two children, a 14-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy, in their vehicle to meet with emergency medical services on Old River Road, just south of Talmage Road.

Deputies and other law enforcement officials from the area found a 44-year-old man dead at the residence on Old River Road, the sheriff’s office said. He was determined to be the father of the two children.

After a search warrant was granted for the residence, investigators interviewed family members and witnesses as part as a homicide investigation. Evidence indicates the man killed his children and then proceeded to take his own life, officials said.

Medical responders attempted lifesaving measure, but both children, who were later determined to be siblings, were declared dead.
