Massachusetts – Winter is back for the next several days and while I mentioned we could see fresh coatings this late afternoon and evening in addition to last night’s snow in the high terrain.

What happened in the Berkshires and SVT into the western hilltowns wasn’t expected, dropping several inches of snow, with near whiteout conditions.

An area of convergence formed between southwest flow and westerly lake effect snow showers that caused an area of moderate to heavy snow to blossom in that area.

Which then was pushed eastward through the Pioneer Valley resulting in snow squalls for some, snow showers for others, and fresh blanket of snow that is not going anywhere through the Christmas weekend.

For tonight, scattered snow showers are still expected, but should be less intense that early this evening and late afternoon.

Temps will continue to crash into the single digits, so watch out for slippery travel, and wind chills are going to go below zero for some as west and southwest winds gust 25-40mph at times.
