A man in his 30s has died and seven people have been injured in a knife frenzy outside a nightclub.

Cops rushed to the scene in Bodmin, Cornwall, and have been near the Eclipse Nightclub since the early hours of this morning.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and those who suffered injuries were taken to hospital for treatment, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The force confirmed a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and remains in police custody.

Leigh Frost, Cornwall councillor for Bodmin St Petroc, said: “I’m shocked and devastated at the news that is coming out from last night.

“Firstly my thoughts are with the victims, their families, and anyone that has suffered from tragic event.

“We are a strong community and we will support each other through this, I’ll make it absolutely clear knife crime is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate it here in Bodmin.

“I’d like to praise the emergency services for their quick actions in responding to this incident, and to urge everyone to let the police conduct their investigation, and if you have any helpful information please come forward.”

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that some of those caught up in the incident had been in the Eclipse nightclub earlier in the evening – but said the attack itself happened outside.

Supt Rob Youngman said it was not currently known what the relationship was between the suspect who has been arrested and the victim and they were still trying to establish a motive.

He said: “At this moment in time we are working to continue to understand the motivation behind this incident. The relationship, if any, between those involved is not clear at this stage.

“We believe some members of the group who were injured had been in Eclipse nightclub. They were then outside in Castle Canyke Road when the incident happened.”
