Suspect is being held on a $1 million dollar bond in jail: Human remains found

The suspect is being held on a $1 million dollar bond in the Guilford County jail. According to the sheriff’s office:

On Thursday, April 27, detectives charged 27-year-old Skyler Kearns with first-degree murder and concealment of death.

The charges against Kearns stem from an ongoing investigation into a reported missing person, 52-year-old Stuart Carter. The initial missing person report was received by the Sheriff’s Office on September 23, 2022.

Kearns was transported to the Greensboro detention center where he was initially held under no bond until his first court appearance.

During his first court appearance, Kearns received a $1,000,000 bond and currently remains in custody.

On April 26, 2024, detectives, along with the assistance of the Triad Blood Hounds Group, conducted a search of a wooded area on Small Road near Randleman Lake Road in Randolph County.

The search of the area led to the discovery of unidentified human remains.

The Medical Examiner’s Office, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, and Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority Randleman Lake Warden’s Office were notified and assisted with the investigation.

The remains were removed from the scene and will be examined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
