South African Foreign Ministry Demarches American Ambassador Bozell
South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) issued a formal diplomatic protest against United States Ambassador Leo Brent Bozell III.
The action was triggered by a series of scathing media interviews and an op-ed published by Bozell. In these statements, he lambasted the South African government, declaring that Washington was “shocked” by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s failure to meaningfully address a list of policy demands.
This marks the second time Bozell has been dĂ©marched by Pretoria since assuming office in February 2026. He was previously reprimanded in March 2026 for saying that the genocidal chant of “Kill the Boer” is hate speech regardless of what the South African courts decide.
