According to a recall report from the Food and Drug Administration, shampoo produced and sold by Kao USA, which is headquartered in Cincinnati, was recalled after the manufacturer detected the bacteria Pluralibacter gergoviae.
“Though Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria pose little medical risk to healthy people, those with certain health issues such as weakened immune systems may be more susceptible to infection by the bacteria,” the release read.
The shampoo affected by the recall was “Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo (in 8.5 oz and 33.8 oz sizes).” The affected products were manufactured between February 21 and February 26 and included lot codes that begin with YR (for example, YR010556).
Customers who purchased the affected products were advised to contact the Kao Professional Hair Technical Hotline at 800-333-2442 or email oribecomplaints@kao.com for a replacement.
