22-year-old man arrested at airport for allegedly trying to smuggle 40 pounds of cocaine inside of bags of jumbo shrimp.
He told officers he brought the drugs in for a payment of $5,000 to $6,000.
Upon closer examination, Customs and Border Protection officers opened the two suitcases and found “loose clothing and multiple packages of frozen jumbo shrimp wrapped in sealed plastic.”
Federal officials said “brick-shaped objects” containing cocaine were also found inside the suitcases.
He faces up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted.
