Indian govt denies plans to regulate or issue cryptocurrency – will launch digital rupee instead
India’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has dismissed all speculations that the govt plans to issue a cryptocurrency that would be regulated by RBI, instead looking to CBDC as an equivalent to the rupee.
Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary told parliament this week about plans for a central bank digital rupee within a year.
India had previously proposed a 30% tax on the proceeds from the sale of cryptocurrencies and other digital assets
