According to the Food and Drug Administration’s recall, the lettuce was distributed to a number of states, including through food service and retail segments. The recall says some retailers carried Iceberg Salad in 12 and 24 ounce bags; and Shredded Lettuce in eight and 16 ounce bags, with best if used by dates of July 16 through Aug. 3.
A list of retailers was not provided by the FDA. A July 18 post on Walmart’s “Food Recalls” website said some of the lettuce products were sold at retail locations 15 states, including Alabama; Arkansas; Florida; Georgia; Indiana; Kansas; Kentucky; Louisiana; Missouri; Mississippi; Oklahoma; Tennessee; Texas; Virginia and West Virginia.
Overall, the voluntarily recalled Taylor Farms products were primarily distributed through food service in more than two dozen states, with the CDC initially warning consumers to avoid eating shredded lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
Walmart says stores in several states are recalling some bags of Taylor Fresh Foods iceberg lettuce after the brand expanded its voluntary recall of lettuce products sourced from central Mexico because of a potential link to the multistate cyclospora outbreak.
Cases of cyclosporiasis – the illness caused by the parasite – have surged in more than 30 states in recent weeks. People who contract the illness usually have “explosive” diarrhea and other severe gastrointestinal issues.
