China tightens rules over private company data transfers with review trigger
Companies in China will need govt. approval to transfer important data abroad under proposed rules announced Friday that comes as Beijing rolls out cybersecurity mandates, Nikkei reported.
Tesla among other companies have been suspected of transferring personal data outside of the country – which China believes could lead to key completive advantages being utilized abroad, their top internet watchdog said.
The rules will apply to transfers involving “sensitive personal information” of at least 10,000 people or any company that handles information on more than 1mn people.
In addition, authorities will review the cybersecurity regulations of the nation receiving the data.
