Chicago Labor Day Weekend Violence Leaves 2 Dead, 4 Shot and 1 Stabbed Overnight

A violent start to Labor Day weekend left two people dead and several others wounded across Chicago, according to police.

Chicago police reported multiple separate incidents involving gunfire and a stabbing between Friday night and early Saturday morning. The victims ranged in age from 28 to 58, authorities said.

One of the deadly shootings happened around 2 a.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood. Police said a 29-year-old man was approached by two people, one of whom pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times. The victim died at the scene.

Another fatal shooting occurred in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. Police said a 28-year-old man was involved in an argument around 11:15 p.m. near South Kedzie Avenue before a gunman shot him in the abdomen. He later transported himself to Holy Cross Hospital, where he died.

Elsewhere, a 58-year-old man was stabbed following a verbal confrontation in North Lawndale. Police said the attacker approached the man, an argument followed and the suspect used a sharp object before fleeing. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital and was listed in fair condition.

Police also responded to shootings in Grand Crossing and Uptown.

In Grand Crossing, a 54-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his face after reportedly being caught near an exchange of gunfire. He declined medical treatment.

In Uptown, a 37-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.

The shootings and stabbing remain under investigation. Authorities have not announced arrests in connection with the incidents, and the identities of the two people killed had not been released.
