A teacher at Alexander High School has been arrested after she allegedly had sex with one of her students

Maris Nichols, a 25-year-old teacher at Alexander High School in Douglasville, faces two counts of sexual assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority. She was booked Friday and hasn’t been granted bond.
Nichols allegedly had intercourse with the same student twice — once on April 23 inside a school closet and once on May 2 inside a car at the end of a driveway in a Douglasville community.
The Douglas County School System said in a statement Thursday it was “deeply troubled by allegations against an individual associated with one of our schools.” The district has launched an investigation and said it will cooperate with law enforcement.
“Student safety is the district’s highest priority,” the statement continued. “The alleged behavior is unacceptable and violates the professional standards all employees are required to uphold.”
