A murder suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Houston is dead after police say he shot himself as officers attempted to arrest him.

According to Houston police, 23-year-old Iddris Umaru was wanted on a murder charge along with his girlfriend, 22-year-old Axzey Mojica.

Police say Mojica has since been arrested and is facing a murder charge in connection with the case.

Last week, I reported on the shooting death of 39-year-old Sean Bree, who investigators say was killed outside his workplace at a shopping center. Authorities allege Umaru and Mojica were responsible for the shooting.

When I spoke with Bree’s mother last week, she told me her son was killed outside the job he loved. She also shared that this is the second son she has lost to gun violence in Houston.

Police have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Umaru’s death. I’ll continue to follow this developing story.
