NOPD arrested Victor Fernandez in the fatal shooting of a Mid-City woman after finding him driving her stolen car.
Victor Fernandez was taken into custody Tuesday around noon in the Lower Ninth Ward during a coordinated operation involving the NOPD and the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Fernandez was found near the intersection of Egania and North Derbigny streets driving a vehicle belonging to 42-year-old Jessyca Gelpi, which had been reported stolen following her death. He was initially arrested on outstanding warrants.
NOPD says as the homicide investigation continued, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Fernandez with Gelpi’s killing.
