33-year-old has been charged with killing her estranged husband.
A Mercer County woman has been charged with killing her estranged husband.
Deputies charged 33-year-old Em McCormick with murder – domestic violence. Her arrest citation says it appears the victim was shot in the back as he was walking down a hallway.
Phil Pendleton is in Mercer County and will have more on that story throughout the day.
According to the warrant, investigators found that around 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 23, McCormick allegedly sent a text message to a friend claiming that her husband had “made a key” and was trying to get inside the residence amid an ongoing divorce. He was reportedly no longer living there at the time.
Authorities wrote that McCormick allegedly texted her friend that she’d shot Hillard and initially told deputies that he had arrived unannounced at her home. She claimed he walked around to the back of the house and opened a back door to the bedroom with a key before the two argued.
Court documents show that McCormick didn’t specify what the argument was about but claimed that Hillard had pushed her onto the bed before she allegedly “grabbed her handgun from under her pillow” and shot him in the hallway.
