Daejon Love posed as an 49ers player and staged a fake NFL contract signing, using it to scam over 26 women out of $1.3 million
Artificial intelligence may have inadvertently given a hand to a man who prosecutors say posed as a wealthy San Francisco 49ers player in order to scam women on dating apps. That’s according to newly released court documents pertaining to 35-year-old Daejon Labrayae Love and his fake “financial advisor,” 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan.
“Due to Love’s false social media representations, search engines and artificial intelligence occasionally stated that Love was a bonafide 49ers players,” court documents state.
Love, as previously reported, created dating profiles on apps like Hinge, Bumble and Tinder where he pretended to be an NFL player, or sometimes a wealthy Swiss real estate developer. With Chan as his accomplice, prosecutors allege Love would cultivate romantic relationships with women he met online under false pretenses and then encourage them to give him money to invest in what in reality, were nonexistent investment vehicles.
In order to perpetrate the scam, prosecutors alleged Love cultivated an elaborate online persona, using Instagram to post photos of videos of himself in 49ers gear, simulating professional football training, and posing with fancy cars. Love’s victims may not have been the only ones fooled by his fake online persona.
According to court documents, the internet — and artificial intelligence — may also have been duped.
