He Punched Her. She Stabbed Him In Self-Defense. Then He Took The Knife And Killed Her.

On December 16, 2024, at around 1:03 p.m., emergency crews responded to the 2000 block of Harrisburg Pike in Columbus, Ohio for a welfare check. Upon arrival, first responders forced entry into the residence and found a woman unresponsive inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as 39-year-old Kylene Amanda Young.

Investigators determined Young had been stabbed multiple times.

According to court records, 23-year-old Tyler Stiers admitted he initially struck Young with a closed fist.

Young then stabbed Stiers in the arm in self-defense.

Stiers admitted he continued striking Young, took the knife from her and stabbed her multiple times.

Investigators also recovered a bloody palm print from the scene that was identified as belonging to Stiers.

Young’s vehicle was missing from her home following the killing and was reported stolen.

On December 17, 2024, the vehicle was located in Athens County, Ohio with Stiers inside.

He was arrested and charged in connection with Young’s death.

Although some early reports described Stiers as Young’s boyfriend, Young’s mother later disputed that characterization and said he was someone her daughter knew. She also stated Stiers had allegedly assaulted Young in the past and had become obsessed with her.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for Young’s killing.

In April 2025, Stiers was found incompetent to stand trial following a court-ordered evaluation.

He was admitted to Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare for treatment.

On August 26, 2026, now-24-year-old Stiers pleaded guilty to aggravated murder.

Charges of aggravated robbery, murder, tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property were dismissed.

Stiers was sentenced to life in prison.

He will become eligible for parole after serving at least 25 years.
