A 2-year-old boy is fighting for his life after an apparent accidental shooting on Indy’s west side.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday inside a home on Thayer Street, near Lafayette Road and West 30th Street.
Police didn’t share much information about what led up to the gunfire, but a police report shows it is being investigated as an accident.
The report also shows officers collected a Glock .40 caliber from the home.
The boy was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
IMPD stressed the importance of good gun storage practices and shared the following tips:
- Educate children on the dangers of playing with guns
- Keep firearms unloaded when not in use
- Store firearms locked away
- Store ammunition separately
- Keep keys/combinations secure
