In a jaw-dropping leap for AI, Google has unveiled DolphinGemma, a large language model designed to decode and mimic dolphin communication.
This brings us closer than ever to chatting with these intelligent marine creatures.
Paired with a modified Pixel phone’s Cetacean Hearing Augmentation Telemetry (CHAT) system, the model doesn’t fully translate dolphin speech but enables a simplified, shared vocabulary.
Developed alongside the Wild Dolphin Project and Georgia Tech, DolphinGemma processes decades of underwater audio-video data, using around 400 million parameters to predict and generate dolphin-like vocal patterns.
