The woman who pleaded guilty to throwing her children off a bridge in Oregon nearly 15 years ago has died in prison, according to authorities.
The Oregon Department of Corrections on Sunday said Amanda Stott-Smith died at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville.
Stott-Smith was charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder in 2009 after she threw her two children off the Sellwood Bridge.
Eldon Smith, 4, died in the fall from a 75-foot fall on May 23, 2009.
Trinity Smith, who was 7 years old at the time, survived the fall and was rescued after two people heard her screaming.
In April 2010, Stott-Smith was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years.
At her sentencing, Stott-Smith apologized.
“I would like to say to all those here today, and especially to my children, I’m deeply sorry,” she said.
Cheryl Robb and Dave Haag were the couple who pulled Trinity and Eldon out of the Willamette River in 2009. They heard Trinity’s screams for help and went out in their boat.
